With a coveted internship in Washington, D.C. on the line, the students throw themselves into these unsolved missing persons and murder cases. But when one of those cases attracts attention again, Mia is forbidden by higher authorities to investigate further. Determined to find out the truth, Mia breaks the rules and risks everything – from the financial support for her program to her own reputation.
Meanwhile, the sister of the deceased Kevin Metsers contacts Mia. In 1993 he died mysteriously and the perpetrators were never found. Mia once wrote a critical thesis about tunnel vision in the case; a case in which Attorney General Olivier Hupkes was involved. Hupkens does not want the case to be re-investigated and no longer wants to provide financial support to the program. The stubborn Mia does not accept this decision, especially after Kevin's sister's plea to reopen the case.
Together with the students, coordinator Jurjen Keller and her cynical assistant Abby, Mia and her team secretly try to find out, in between all the cases, how the boy disappeared after football training and was later found dead. The students must dig deeper and even go outside the law to find the perpetrators and provide answers to the relatives
