Orange is the New Black - Season 6
A while ago the sixth season of Orange is the new Black was made available on Netflix. I've been watching this show since the very beginning, so naturally I was curious about the sixth. I immediately started watching.
In Orange is the new Black we follow various women in a women's correctional facility. Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) is sentenced to 15 months of prison as she was caught transporting drugs. She trades her comfortable life in New York for an orange overall. In this prison she is confronted with struggles and camaraderie within a group of remarkable prisoners.
In the fifth season we saw how a riot in the female prison was going on. The season ended with all the prisoners captured and sent to a maximum security prison. Naturally, that is where the story continues in the sixth season.
To come straight to the point, I thought that the fifth season was a lot better than the sixth. Season six starts off very chaotic, especially noticeable in the structure of the episodes. A lot of characters are now in a heavily guarded cell, as a consequence of their actions in the previous season. They all have to find a way to survive in their new environment, which appears even more hopeless and dark than their previous prison.
The season focuses on a conflict between two cell blocks, led by two sisters and rivals. It is a good thing to once again have true villains, like we had before in previous seasons, but besides that I thought that the story was pretty boring. A lot less was going on than in the fifth season and that's unfortunate. The new characters are fun, but unnecessary and not special.
I thought that the sixth season was fun, but less than season five. I'm curious to see what the seventh season will bring.
