Max also shared an emotional teaser that you can view below this news item. After starting three episodes on Thursday, October 5, the season continues with two new episodes each week leading up to the season finale on Thursday, October 26.
In the teaser, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) is madly in love with Ed, better known as Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), but are the feelings mutual? "F**k you, Stede Bonnet," Ed says in a voiceover as Stede wonders if his love is trying to kill him or not.
Our Flag Means Death is (very) loosely based on the true adventures of eighteenth-century Stede Bonnet, who wanted to become a pirate. After trading the seemingly charming life of a gentleman for that of a drunk, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Stede struggles to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, but his fate changes after a fateful encounter with the infamous Captain Blackbeard. To their surprise, the very different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas... they found love. Now they have to survive.
Our Flag Means Death is produced by Waititi along with creator-showrunner David Jenkins. In addition to his showrunner duties, Jenkins directed the first two episodes of season two. Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein and Antoine Douaihy also serve as executive producers. Season two was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand.
