The time you spend on Payback (2023) will be repaid with quality. The acting talent of Morven Christie (The Bay (2019)) as Lexie Noble ensures that Payback (2023) scores highly. Lexie is confronted with the brutal murder of her husband. When it turns out that he was up to shady dealings, Lexie is forced to clean up her husband's mess. This requires flexibility and cleverness as her family is also threatened. As is often the case in the world of television series, Lexie possesses enough of the required qualities to stay alive and find out what is happening. The question remains whether she will survive.
Payback is worth it if you like excitement.
Lexie gets caught in the middle of several police investigations. One is focused on solving her husband's murder. The other investigation focuses on a serious criminal and his family. It soon becomes clear that the police officers have their own goals in mind and are not always after the same goal as Lexie. It becomes a battle for life and death, especially when Lexie is also threatened by the aforementioned serious criminal. Lexie has to use all her skills to stay upright.
Payback (2023) has a number of strong elements. As so often, this British series is shot with beautiful images and the acting is excellent. The story is exciting and has enough surprises to keep you watching with fascination. Unfortunately, the story is not very believable. The efforts of Cal Morris (Peter Mullan, Cursed (2020)), the man who heads a criminal organization, is especially questionable. Not because of Peter Mullen and his acting talent, but because of his role in the story. Someone with so much power will not easily interfere with the practice of violence. In Payback (2023), however, Cal is at the center of the violence and threats.
Payback has a number of strong elements.
Apart from the criticism stated above, Payback (2023) is an exciting story. The series is therefore worth watching. It's a shame that the storyline is given away so quickly. While in the beginning the idea that Lexie herself killed her husband is played with, this is abandoned relatively quickly. It makes the story more one-dimensional. However, it does provide more space to discover what drives Cal and his family. In short, Payback (2023) is worth it if you like suspense. If that is your main motivation for watching a series like this, then Payback (2023) is definitely recommended.
