Anthony Byrne will direct sixth season of Peaky Blinders

Anthony Byrne is going to direct the sixth season of Peaky Blinders. He revealed this last sunday.

The fifth season ended in September 2019. Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham, just after the First World War. The main character is Thomas 'Tommy' Shelby (Cillian Murphy), who is in charge of one of the most frightening gangs in the city, the Peaky Blinders. In the fifth season, the gang, led by Shelby, had to deal with the stock market crash of 1929.

Up to and including season five, the British series Peaky Blinders was directed by a different director during every season. Anthony Byrne also took care of season five and is therefore the first director to direct two seasons. Steven Knight - the creator of the series - previously announced that Peaky Blinders will most likely end after seven seasons.

Creator and writer Steven Knight has also announced that the sixth season will take place in 1934, five years after the final episode of season five. “In series six, we'll be looking at 1934 and things are worse," Knight said. "The drum beat is getting louder, tensions are worse and Tommy is right in the middle of all that. Again, it will be an exploration of what was going on in the '30s and how certain things transpired. ”With this, Knight refers - among other things - to the growing impact of fascism. The sixth season is likely to appear at the BBC in late 2020 or early 2021.

6,879 members of MySeries follow Peaky Blinders, making the series one of the Top 10 most popular series.
