Peaky Blinders - season 4 (DVD)
If we were to create a list of the best British shows from the 21st century, then I can say for certain that Peaky Blinders will be high on that list. The show revolves around the Shelby street thugs, who slowly but steadily work their way up and from the start it has been acclaimed for its acting and atmosphere. Despite lots of violence the show garnered a lot of attention and its fans appear to be looking forward to each new season.
In this fourth season the Shelby's have to deal with new problems: the American-Italian mafia. Next to that, their legal activities in their factories are undermined by upcoming communism and a local union activist. A lot of material to keep the show, which has by now reached the second half of the 1920s, interesting over the course of six episodes.
As a result of that it is unsurprising that Peaky Blinders is a fan favourite and does well with the critics since the initial broadcast of the first season. Its sober style, direction and historical setting make sure that every time it's sixty minutes of excitement for the viewer. The main actors have, over the course of time, perfected their characters and new characters manage to put their own mark on the story.

Despite all the good things, we have to end this DVD review on a negative note. The show itself is still solid as a rock, but fans who buy the DVD don't really get a whole lot out of it. Six episodes of one hour each, divided over two disks, without any extras or anything else. If you look at the story and the time in which it takes place, then you would most certainly expect that there would be at least some extras. Unfortunately they just want profit. As a result of that the score for the DVD set is quite low, even though the show itself deserves at least a nine.

About the writer, Karzal

Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
