Author and series co-creator Rick Riordan announced the news via a video message during last weekend's San Diego Comic-Con panel.
“Daniel Diemer’s enthusiasm and talent brings a whole new dimension to Tyson, and it’s going to be incredible to see him in the second season,” Riordan said. “I can’t wait for you guys to meet him and welcome him to the Percy Jackson universe.”
In a video message of his own, Diemer told the crowd: “I’m thrilled and honored to step into the extraordinary universe of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Now, I’ve been a fan of the books since I was 10 years old, and it’s a dream come true to be a part of this and embark on such an exciting adventure with such talented cast and crew and, of course, passionate fans. I can’t wait to bring Tyson to life and to share his journey with you all.”
Diemer's Tyson is a young cyclops who grew up all alone on the streets and finds it difficult to survive in the human world. Shy and clumsy, with a heart almost as big as himself, Tyson soon discovers that Poseidon is his father, which means that Percy Jackson is his half-brother... and that Tyson may have finally found a home.
The second season follows Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri) as they embark on a new adventure based on The Sea of Monsters, the second Percy Jackson and the Olympians book by Rick Riordan's bestselling series, published by Disney Hyperion.
In the new season, Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood a year later and his world is turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth changes, he learns he has a Cyclops for a brother, Grover goes missing and the camp is under siege by the forces of Kronos. Percy's journey to put things right takes him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.
Filming for season two begins this week in Vancouver.
Diemer is best known for his role in the 2020 Netflix film The Half of It. He also appeared in the recent Hulu series Under the Bridge. His other television roles include Prime Video's The Man in the High Castle, and Netflix series Black Summer and The Midnight Club.
