Percy Jackson and the Olympians find his Atlas

Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ has announced which new characters will appear in season three.
Actor Holt McCallany (The Waterfront) has been cast in a recurring guest role as Atlas, also known as the Bearer of the Heavens. After the last war between the Titans and the Olympian gods, he was condemned by Zeus to carry the sky, but he has since been freed and is determined to lead Kronos's armies in a revenge war against the Olympians.

Atlas serves as the central villain of season three and will remain a major threat in later seasons; McCallany is expected to appear in six episodes. The third season will follow the story of The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Rick Riordan's five-part series, in which Percy Jackson is tasked with rescuing both the goddess Artemis and Annabeth after they are kidnapped by Atlas.

In addition to Atlas, other important characters are introduced. David Costabile (Billions) appears in a recurring guest role as Dr. Thorn, a strict and authoritarian director of a military academy who demands absolute obedience from his students.

Readers of the books know that Dr. Thorn is merely the human form of a mythological creature, though further details are deliberately left unspoken to avoid spoilers. Percy and his friends meet him early in the story as they attempt to recruit two particularly powerful demigods for Camp Half-Blood.

Jesse L. Martin (The Irrational) also joins the cast as Frederick Chase, Annabeth's mortal father. He is described as a brilliant but sometimes absent-minded military historian deemed worthy by the goddess Athena to raise her daughter. Although the relationship between Frederick and Annabeth has been complicated for a long time, there is mutual love, and they are slowly working on mending their bond.

These new cast members join an already impressive lineup for season three, with Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie playing Nico and Bianca di Angelo, the children of Hades, respectively, while Dafne Keen appears as the goddess Artemis and Saara Chaudry portrays Zoë Nightshade.

Meanwhile, season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is currently airing weekly on Disney+.

In this season, Percy Jackson, played by Walker Scobell, returns to Camp Half-Blood a year later and discovers his world has completely changed: his friendship with Annabeth, played by Leah Sava Jeffries, is under strain, he has a Cyclops brother named Tyson, portrayed by Daniel Diemer, Grover is missing, and the camp is under siege by the forces of Kronos. Percy's attempt to set everything right leads him to the perilous Sea of Monsters, where a mysterious and fateful destiny awaits the son of Poseidon.
