The story drags on quite a bit, especially in the first 4 episodes. Then there is a little more pace, but then suddenly things start to fall out of the blue. Maybe it makes a lot of sense if you look 100% focused, but I can't keep that up for 8 hours. The protagonist always has the same facial expression all this time, which eventually irritates. Fortunately, the actors and actresses in the supporting roles are a lot better and their roles are also more interesting.

My first reaction (after 2 episodes) is also in two parts. I liked the acting, the atmosphere and the script. I didn't like the cliché 'antihero stuff', which is so typical for so many HBO series. Just give me real heroes and sinister bad guys with a hint of goodness in their soul. And to be honest, sometimes it all seemed a bit too artificial ... But certainly not bad. I will certainly look further ;-)

Perry Mason has often been made into a movie. In this version, no savings have been made and an image of 1932 is beautifully portrayed. In the beginning he is indeed some kind of antihero. But that is more the environment than the attitude. This series is highly recommended. Do it primarily for cinematic reasons. For the beauty. Then about the story. Then for everything. I hope for a follow-up. A fat 9.
