Rick and Morty experience new adventures in their constant battle against dangers that they themselves have mostly created. How do you explain what a season of Rick and Morty is about? Frankly, that is hardly possible, because the story crosses the entire universe and countless dimensions. You can be forgiven if you lose track after just a few episodes. Who is who and what dimension do they come from? Doesn't matter, because it never gets boring.
The genius of Rick and Morty is that you can enjoy the series even if you've lost your grip on these details. It also ensures that you can see each season several times and always enjoy new insights. The scripts are very cleverly written and are full of twists and turns for advanced users.
Each episode is a self-contained story with a theme loosely based on a popular movie. At the same time, there is a common thread running through the seasons. Also this season there are fights against alien antagonists, there are family quarrels, Rick sometimes tries to be a little nicer to Morty and the Smith family sees a lot of character progression.
This is how Jerry discovers unprecedented possibilities in herself and Beth learns to love herself. Summer does a Die Hard and we see how 5 billion Mortys manage to get by without Rick. In Season 6, Rick himself is still hunting Rick Prime, the original Rick responsible for the deaths of Diane and Beth Sanchez in Dimension C-137.
So we happily jump from dimension to dimension again and regularly run into old acquaintances there. Sometimes we learn a little more about these characters, which gives them more depth. There is a lot of psychology hidden in Rick and Morty. Anyone who goes above and beyond can always enjoy the many references to pop culture in its broadest form. And if that doesn't work, there are always many jokes and familiar situations to make you laugh.
Rick and Morty continues to fascinate and amaze me. The writing is again top-notch. Every season the animation gets better and more complex. This series is enjoying interdimensional travel at its most chaotic. And you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on crystals to participate.
I watched this season on Blu-ray. In addition to the beautiful SteelBook you get a number of extras that tell more about each episode and about the favorite scenes of the production team. I would have liked to see more extras, but an animated series probably offers fewer options than a traditional film or series.
Rick and Morty is still highly recommended and season 6 never disappoints. A well deserved 9 for me.

Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
