Rocco Schiavone - Season 5

Rocco Schiavone's fifth season is the best yet.
Commissioner Rocco Schiavone remains charming and gruff at the same time, nothing about that will change in this season. His relationship with his colleagues is at the same time full of love and hate. As his colleague you can get a pat on the head one time, he then follows up with a nasty remark to make sure you don't get overconfident. His love life remains complex. Rocco still mourns his wife but also takes time to date other women. The yardstick of 'fucking business' also causes hilarity this season. His loving relationship with Lupa, his dog, shows that Rocco still has a small heart.

This is the most consistent season to date.

This season, as in other seasons, there is more focus on one of the other characters that move around Rocco. This time it's police officer Michele Daruta (Massimiliano Caprara, Don Matteo). His private life turns out to be more complex than expected. Everyone thinks he is happily married. However, that turns out not to be the case. When his love partner wants to be more public and wants to live together, Michele becomes very insecure. The big question is whether he wants to live his life the way his partner wants. This doubt creates the necessary complications.

Where the fourth season only had two episodes, this fifth season, fortunately, returns to four episodes. With a duration of one hour and forty minutes, there is enough time to complete a case per episode. The common thread, in addition to Rocco's life, is still the murder of Rocco's wife. Especially the last episode is used for that. This is set in motion when an old acquaintance shows up. Then Rocco's criminal friends also appear more emphatically on the scene. Their mutual bond is further explored and supplemented with flashbacks to their shared past. It gives the strong bond between these unusual friends more and more depth.

The mix of serious and humor proudly remains without one of the two getting the upper hand.

The fifth season is perhaps the best of this series. This is mainly because there is not a single weak moment in between. This is the most consistent season to date. The mix of serious and humor proudly remains without one of the two getting the upper hand. In the first episode, for example, the formation of a football team with Rocco's colleagues is hilarious. In addition, according to Rocco, D'Intino remains the club's simpleton. He constantly informs D'Intino. The dragging of the corpse in the first episode also causes a smile. On the other hand, Rocco can't solve everything and that causes stress. He usually relieves that stress by smoking weed. The serious part is in the relationships and the cases to be resolved.

Rocco is at his best this season. All actors have clearly grown even further in their roles. For the regular viewer, this club of people has now become a kind of family. On the one hand, life is serious but with enough reasons to laugh too. The mountains and Aosta have now become a kind of second (television) home. The mountains in particular provide atmospheric images. I am eagerly awaiting the next episodes of the upcoming season.
