Save Me (2018) with Lennie James gets third season

Sky is developing a third season of the BAFTA-winning Lennie James hit Save Me (2018).

The third season of Save Me (2018), titled Save Me Three, is in the scripting stage, Director of Content Zai Bennett revealed at a BPG event, and the speed at which it hits the screen depends on the availability of creator James (Fear The Walking Dead), who also plays the lead role.

The first two series, produced by independent production company World Productions (Line of Duty), are among Sky's most successful series in recent years, with high ratings and critical acclaim, while Save Me Too (the second season) won the 2021 BAFTA for best drama series.

Save Me (2018)

Starring Stephen Graham (White House Farm) and Suranne Jones (Gentleman Jack), the series follows Nelson "Nelly" Rowe, an exhausted man whose life is turned upside down when Jody, the daughter he fathered thirteen years ago, mysteriously disappears. In season two, he eventually tracks down his daughter, but gives up a life of freedom and the chance to get to know her in order to protect someone who has been sold to a sex trafficking gang.

Speaking at the London event, Bennett called Save Me (2018) proof that "your most expensive series isn't always your most successful" while speaking of a "less, bigger, better" approach to original drama assignments.

He revealed that Sky is looking to Happy Valley for inspiration for her next hit, a day after Sally Wainwright's Sarah Lancashire sensation drew 7.5 million viewers for her finale.
