Judy Reyes returns as Carla in Scrubs reboot

Judy Reyes is rejoining the world of Scrubs. She will return in a special, recurring guest role as Carla Espinosa in the upcoming ABC comedy series.
Carla Espinosa is the head of the nursing department at Sacred Heart Hospital. Judy Reyes played this character in the first eight seasons of the original series.

The new half-hour series from 20th Television, officially ordered in July, also brings back Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke in their iconic roles as JD Dorian, Christopher Turk, and Elliot Reid. All three also serve as executive producers.

The story follows JD and Turk, who reunite in the operating room after a long time. Medicine has changed, the new batch of interns is different, but their close friendship remains strong. Familiar and new characters navigate the chaos of Sacred Heart, with plenty of humor, warmth, and unexpected twists.

Bill Lawrence, creator of the original series, is producing alongside Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra (also veterans of Scrubs), who jointly take on the role of showrunner. Reyes’ participation was made possible through special arrangements, as she is currently a regular cast member of the ABC series High Potential.

The original Scrubs ran for seven seasons on NBC and two more seasons on ABC. The series, which centered around JD, Turk, Elliot, and the rest of the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital, was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards and won two. Reyes received two ALMA Awards for her role as Carla.

In addition to her work on Scrubs and High Potential, Reyes is also known for roles such as Zoila Diaz in Devious Maids (Lifetime) and Quiet Ann in Claws (TNT). She has also appeared in Dr. Death (Peacock), Better Things (FX), One Day at a Time (2017) (Netflix), Jane the Virgin (The CW), Oz (HBO), Succession (HBO), The Good Wife (CBS), The Sopranos (HBO), and Fresh off the Boat (ABC).
