Sex/Life (2021) canceled by Netflix after two seasons

The end has come for Netflix series Sex/Life (2021). The streamer is not moving forward with a third season of the dramedy series.
Sarah Shahi, Margaret Odette, Mike Vogel and Adam Demos star in Sex/Life (2021). According to a spokesman for Netflix, the series concluded naturally in the second season and the storylines of the main characters, whose relationships were brought to a successful conclusion, were completed. The channel is proud of the series and the work that the producers, cast and crew have put into it.

Sex/Life (2021) is created by Stacy Rukeyser and inspired by BB Easto's book 44 Chapters About 4 Men. It tells the story of a love triangle between a woman, her husband and her past with a provocative new take on female identity and desire.

Rukeyser was showrunner, creator, executive producer and writer. Oscar-winning producer J. Miles Dale and Jordan Hawley also serve as executive producers. Rukeyser is working with Netflix on a new project.

It had been speculated for a while that season two, which was released by Netflix last month, would be the last. Actress Shahi was recently announced as the lead actress of ABC pilot Judgment, from former Charmed (2018) showrunner Joey Falco and 20th Television. Shahi had been in talks for the project since January as ABC and producers worked around her commitment to Sex/Life (2021). She could reprise her role in Sex/Life (2021) if the series was renewed, subject to availability, as Judgment took first place.

Earlier this month, Shahi spoke on the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat about her problems with the second season of the series.

“I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season,” Shahi said. “I’m not going to put it [the show] down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show,” Shahi said. She also predicted that she was “never gonna work for Netflix again now after saying all this.”

It's brave of her to say that in a podcast when she of course knows that Netflix no longer wants to do business with her in the future. Every time I see or read Sarah Shahi I immediately think of Shaw from Person of Interest. Badass.
