Doors slam, the piano plays by itself and when an old-fashioned-looking woman appears at the family's window, Pat believes she is going mad - or worse. Every family has their demons, but for the Phelps, theirs are real.
Season two picked up after the chaotic season one finale, when Pat ended up in a mental hospital for trying to kill her family with an axe. There she undergoes extensive electroshock therapy and when she returns home, she meets a mysterious woman who introduces her to a host of ancient remedies used to 'cure' women from depression, including the apocryphal Smile Masks. Meanwhile, the Phelpses continued to be haunted by ghosts as Pat struggled with her mental illness in a broken home and battled demons both internally and externally.
The series also stars Mira Sorvino, Gus Birney, Merrin Dungey, Dylan Gage, Judith Light, Allison Tolman and Sherilyn Fenn.
Sources close to the production revealed that the series "didn't find a big enough audience" to continue. Both seasons will also be removed from the streamer's library. Producer Warner. Brittle. TV tried to sell the series elsewhere but was unsuccessful.
The series is produced by Jeff Astrof of Other Shoe Productions, Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford of Merman and Aaron Kaplan and Melanie Frankel of Kapital Entertainment. Cox was also a producer.
Shining Vale was created by Astrof and Horgan and produced by Warner Bros. Television and Lionsgate Television in association with Other Shoe Productions, Merman and Kapital Entertainment.
