Medical drama series Skymed renewed for second season

Skymed, a collaboration between CBC and CBS Studios, has been renewed for a second season on Paramount+.

The first season of Skymed had nine episodes and was released in July last year. Production on season two has just begun and Sydney Kuhne (Ginny & Georgia), Ryan Ali (Ascension) and Nadine Whiteman-Roden (Designated Survivor) have joined the cast.

Skymed is a medical adventure series starring Natasha Calis, Morgan Holmstrom, Praneet Akilla, Aason 'Ace' Nadjiwan, Mercedes Morris, Thomas Elms, Kheon Clarke, Rebecca Kwan, Aaron Ashmore and Braeden Clarke.

The series follows the triumphs, heartaches and trials of nurses and aspiring pilots as they fly air ambulances to areas of remote northern Canada. The episodes intertwine intense character journeys with high-stakes medical rescues. At 20,000 feet in the air, these medical workers are challenged to rely on each other to survive.

Here's the announcement of the second season of Paramount+:

"The nine-episode second season is now in production in Northern Manitoba and Ontario, with an ensemble cast led by Natasha Calis, Aason (Ace) Nadjiwon and Morgan Holmstrom.

The series will air on CBC TV and CBC Gem in Canada and Paramount+ in the US and UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France and Germany.

Paramount+, CBC and Piazza Entertainment today announced that production has begun on the second season of the medical drama series SKYMED in Ontario and Manitoba. The young medics and pilots who operate air ambulances return for more life, death and drama in the skies of Canada's remote north.

The series was created by Julie Puckrin and inspired by her sister and brother-in-law who met while flying air ambulances. Braeden Clarke reprises his recurring role as Crystal's charming lover, Jeremy Wood, and Aaron Ashmore returns as Wheezer, the smart-ass big brother everyone looks up to.

New cast members for the second season include Sydney Kuhne as the fiery new flight medic Stef, Ryan Ali as the handsome young pilot Reese and Nadine Whiteman-Roden as Dr. Yana Noah."

Although the Netherlands and various other countries are not mentioned in the press release, the first season of Skymed is available on SkyShowtime.
