As for how Ashur — who died in the 2012 finale of Spartacus: Vengeance — is alive in the new series, Starz explains: "The series asks the question: What if Ashur hadn't died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if he had been given the gladiatorial school of Batiatus in exchange for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and end the slave rebellion?"
The story, which Starz says will "reimagine the possibilities and twists of fate from the original fan-favorite series," also stars Graham McTavish as Korris, Ashur's Doctore, and Tenika Davis as Achillia, a gladiatrix.
The nearly wordless teaser — Tarabay gets the only dialogue by saying "Begin" to his gladiators — also shows off the stylized action that was a hallmark of Spartacus during its original 2010-13 run.
Starz ordered the series in November 2023, with Steven S. DeKnight returning as writer and showrunner. Lionsgate Television will produce House of Ashur, which premieres in the fall.
