In the ten-part fourth season, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) comes ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale causes existential dread and division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will be like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs a future in which their cultural and political weight will be severely curtailed.

The fourth season was created by Jesse Armstrong; executive producers are Jesse Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy and Will Ferrell. Jesse Armstrong serves as the showrunner.
The series' first two seasons earned 23 Emmy nominations and won nine awards, seven of which received Emmys, including one for Outstanding Drama Series, for the second season. Season three, which premiered last October, has also won several awards, including WGA, DGA, and PGA, and the SAG Award for Drama Ensemble.
