Sweet Tooth is food for the real sweet tooth.Sweet Tooth revolves around a pandemic that wipes out much of humanity and the struggle that follows. The military-operating Last Men hunt the hybrid children born in recent years. Immune to the pandemic, these half-human, half-animal creatures seem to hold the key to humanity's survival. While some of the latter struggle to save the hybrid children, the vast majority of humanity seems engaged in exterminating the children and themselves.
Humanity appears to be organized into different factions. Those factions collide when the leader of the Last Men does everything possible to show that he is an added value. The deer/human hybrid Gus is an important part of that. Gus becomes more and more important as this season progresses. His search for his mother yields more answers, including answers about his own past. Gus and the other children, who live in captivity to the Last Men, are subjected to all sorts of cruelties. Thanks in part to the experiments of Dr. Aditya Singh. In the search for a medicine for humanity, much is allowed.
The pace is good and the series is easy to follow.
The images are fantastic. Although the world is ending and there are enough dark places on this earth, the series also shows beautiful views. That combination actually also applies to the story. On the one hand, the story has a youthful side. Part of the story is rather light in nature. This is partly due to the large input of children. In addition, some bad guys are magnified very grotesquely. It ensures that Sweet Tooth remains accessible to a wider audience. In contrast to this are the lurid experiments and the violence that is depicted quite explicitly for a youthful series. Sweet Tooth thus balances between a youthful and adult series.
The fact remains that the series can be a portent of our future. We just came out of a major pandemic. That makes everything that happens in this series even more decisive and feel more urgent. It is a warning to humanity. However, it is also a beacon of hope. Maybe the world will be a better place when there are fewer or no more people. Although this also means that the good among us can also die. In that respect, the series is also realistic. No one is safe from death.
Sweet Tooth is infectiously entertaining.
Sweet Tooth has a youthful character. The pace is good and the series is easy to follow. There is humor but also enough drama. The fantasy explodes. Thanks to DC Comics but certainly also because of the makers. They have made a beautiful world. Less dark than the comic, which makes it accessible to a wider audience. Sweet Tooth is infectiously entertaining. Escape for a few evenings in a dystopian world that nevertheless has unexpected beautiful sides.
