The renewal comes about two months after season two ended on a cliffhanger. Meaghan Oppenheimer, who created the series based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel, will continue as showrunner.

Like most streamers, Hulu doesn't release detailed ratings for its shows. However, it notes that Tell Me Lies remained in the Top 15 Today on-screen chart for more than 50 consecutive days during and after season two.
Following the season two finale, Oppenheimer revealed that she wasn’t sure whether a third season was in the offing — but if it ended up not happening, she’d be OK with leaving some of the show’s stories unresolved: “I always like to leave people guessing. And I also think some of my favorite shows, even when they end, leave things not completely resolved,” she said. “I don’t hate those stories that have open endings. So I was sort of of the mind of, let’s have a cliffhanger so that people want to come back and, if we don’t get to answer it, then that’s life (laughs). I’m always trying to surprise people. I’m always trying to surprise the audience, because it’s just very fun to do.”
In addition to Van Patten and White, the Tell Me Lies season two cast includes Cat Missal, Spencer House, Sonia Mena, Branden Cook, Alicia Crowder and Tom Ellis.
