Mediocre series, not very refreshing but still somewhat entertaining. Much of the cast made little impression and the story remained somewhat flat. The Acolyte is the latest addition to the Star Wars universe. What once started with a series of films, the Star Wars universe now consists of (among other things) films, series, video games, books and you could perhaps count the attractions of the Disney parks. The premise of The Acolyte was promising, namely a story set long before the first films and which should depict the rise of the Sith (the evil opposite of the Jedi). The end result was a bit disappointing. The story wasn't special and characters other than the main character were a lot more intriguing.
The Acolyte consists of eight episodes, each lasting between 30 and 46 minutes. A large part of the episode is then reserved for the end credits, a well-known phenomenon in other Star Wars series (but also Marvel productions). The series starts intriguingly, a Jedi is murdered by a non-Jedi, something that was considered impossible. The suspect is a woman who makes repairs on spaceships in space, a job normally reserved for robots.
Even though the design sounds promising, the execution was disappointing. The story didn't grab anything and wasn't very refreshing. The cast is also unconvincing, with a few exceptions. The person it revolves around, Mea Aniseya (Amandla Stenberg: The Eddy), is, in my opinion, obscured by other characters. The same goes for one of the other main characters the Jedi named Sol (Lee Jung-jae: Squid Game). In my opinion, the show is stolen by the character Qimir (Manny Jacinto: The Good Place) who is introduced early in the series.
All in all, The Acolyte remains a meaningless addition to the Star Wars universe
Of course, not everything was bad in The Acolyte. The action and special effects were again of a high level and lightsaber battles are always fun to watch. New elements are also introduced and a first: a Jedi Wookie! But all in all, The Acolyte remains a meaningless addition to the Star Wars universe, which is a shame. Certain characters are hinted at that are crucial to the further Star Wars story. Due to the disappointing results of The Acolyte, in both ratings and reviews, it is questionable whether those characters will be explored again. Disney has already confirmed that there will not be a second season of The Acolyte.
The Acolyte is a mediocre series that had a lot of potential. The main characters are unconvincing, except for a few, which often made it difficult to watch. Despite the foregoing, it was an entertaining series with good action and special effects. Due to the disappointing results, there will be no second season. That is a shame as it does lay a foundation for events that could have a major impact on the history of the films. Hopefully a way will be found to continue the story in a certain form, saying goodbye to the main storyline of The Acolyte.
One consolation is that there are many new Star Wars series/productions coming up. For example, there will be a second season of Andor and Ahsoka, a new series Skeleton Crew and several films, at least one of which is a sequel to the series The Mandalorian.
The Acolyte tries to create something new, but fails. In my opinion the most disappointing Star Wars production to date.

Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
