Drama series The Baxters starring Roma Downey and Ted McGinley to Prime Video

Prime Video has picked up LightWorkers Media's family drama series The Baxters.
The 10-part series, based on Karen Kingsbury's bestseller, is produced by Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel), who stars as Elizabeth Baxter, the family matriarch, alongside Ted McGinley (Shrinking) as John Baxter.

The Baxters, which will debut exclusively on Prime Video in spring 2024, was filmed in 2018. The series, also produced by Will Packer, was originally set to air on LightWorkers Media's platform.

LightWorkers Media is the faith- and family-focused company founded by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey (pictured) and owned by Amazon MGM Studios through the acquisition of LightWorkers parent company MGM.

The Baxters follows Elizabeth and John Baxter and their five adult children. Season one centers on Elizabeth and John's daughter, Kari, who learns the shocking truth that her husband, Professor Tim, has been secretly having an affair with one of his students. As her relationship is tested, Kari must seek solace in her faith and family to discover if love is truly a choice and if her marriage can be restored. In this deeply moving, faith-based journey, the Baxters must come together as a family to face life's challenges.

“With over 25 million fans of the Baxter series books we know audiences are going to love this family drama brought to life, and I am personally so excited to bring more inspirational content to Prime Video,” Downey said.

The cast also includes Ali Cobrin (Friends with Benefits) as Kari Baxter Jacobs, Masey McLain (The Resident) as Ashley Baxter, Josh Plasse (9-1-1: Lone Star) as Luke Baxter, Cassidy Gifford (Blue Bloods) as Reagan Decker, Reilly Anspaugh as Erin Baxter, Emily Peterson (Chicago PD) as Brooke Baxter and Brandon Hirsch (Black Lightning) as Tim Jacobs.

Downey and LightWorkers Media originally acquired the rights to Kingsbury's The Baxter Family novel series for television eight years ago.

“Since the day Roma Downey asked for my blessing in making the Baxter family literary series into a televised show, I have dreamed that it might find a home on Prime Video,” Kingsbury said. “Many millions of readers are going to be thrilled over this news. It is a dream come true.”

The Baxters is produced by LightWorkers Media, Will Packer Media and Haven Entertainment. Jessie Rosen is showrunner and executive producer. Kevin Mann, Brendan Bragg and Jaime Primak produce Sullivan along with Downey, Rosen and Packer. Karen Kingsbury and Rick Christian are consulting producers.
