Furthermore, Homelander turns to his biological father Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, while Billy Butcher — portrayed by Karl Urban — is still struggling with his temporary superpowers resulting from a cancerous tumor after using an experimental dose of Compound-V. In the closing scenes of the trailer, Homelander is even seen in the Oval Office with a sinister smile, suggesting that his power is greater than ever.
The fifth season takes place in a world where Homelander has almost complete control. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a so-called 'Freedom Camp', while Starlight tries to build a resistance movement against the overwhelming power of the supes. Kimiko is missing, until Butcher returns with an extreme plan: a virus that can wipe out all supes.
Showrunner Eric Kripke previously indicated that he always planned to wrap up the series around season five. Nonetheless, the universe of The Boys continues to grow. Besides the spin-off Gen V, which appeared in 2023, a prequel series has also been announced: Vought Rising. This will focus on Soldier Boy and Stormfront, played by Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash.
The fifth season of The Boys will premiere on Wednesday, April 8, on Prime Video with two episodes. After that, a new episode will be released every week until the series finale on May 20.
