©Deadline - Elizabeth Morris/PeacockSince then, The 'Burbs has accumulated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes and remained in the Nielsen Top 10 of most-watched original streaming series in the U.S. for four consecutive weeks, peaking at the second spot—remarkable for a comedy series with shorter episodes.
The series is based on the 1989 film of the same name and is set in a seemingly quiet suburb. The story follows a young couple, played by Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall, who are forced to move into the man's childhood home. Their lives are turned upside down when a mysterious new neighbor appears, bringing old neighborhood secrets to light and creating new, dangerous situations.
In addition to Palmer and Whitehall, the cast includes Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar. The series was created by Celeste Hughey.
Behind the scenes, big names are also involved: Seth MacFarlane and Brian Grazer are among the executive producers. Their contribution, along with the strong script and contemporary approach to the story, has helped make the series a modern and successful reinterpretation of the original concept.
