It all started with an emergency call a little before 6 am on December 26, 1996. The agent answering the call gets a woman on the line who reports in panic that her six-year-old daughter has been kidnapped and a ransom is being demanded. Immediately a car is sent to the address that the woman gives and a little later, among others, the FBI is called in. Later that day, the girl's body is found in the basement of the house, but there is no trace of the perpetrators. Initially, both parents and the 3-year older brother were considered possible suspects, but years later, in 2008, they were excluded as possible perpetrators on the basis of a DNA test. There was still no trace of the real perpetrator or perpetrators. Twenty years after the event, a team of experts was assembled, including the then lead investigator, forensic specialists and FBI agents, and all evidence was again subjected to a meticulous investigation. This is the story of the investigation and how they proceeded and how the investigators quickly came to new findings. The remarkably long ransom-demand letter was once again fully analyzed by an expert just as the original distress call was reworked with state-of-the-art techniques in the hope of discovering something new. The main rooms of the house were exactly recreated in a large shed to give the researchers a better idea of time and space. Among other things, it was investigated why the requested sum of the ransom was $ 118,000 while the parents were millionaires and owned, among other things, 2 airplanes and a yacht. Nothing was left to chance and the experts eventually came to surprising findings and a clear suspicion of who had been the killer twenty years earlier. Although the court cannot do anything at the moment with the investigation provided and the accompanying theory of who the murderer was, the detailed way in which the investigation is portrayed is to say the least interesting. In the end, as a viewer, unlike for example "Making a Murderer", you are not left with a lot of questions, but the decision of the investigators after the conducted investigation seems more reality than fiction and it seems to me that someone would doubt whether they are right. In my opinion, definitely recommended, especially because as a viewer you can follow exactly in which ways the investigators worked and how they arrived at their findings.
