The British humor in The Cleaner regularly ensures a smile and a wonderful fit of laughter. Paul 'Wicky' Wickstead (Greg Davies, Cuckoo and The Inbetweeners) is not just a cleaner. Wicky is a certified cleaner. A cleaner who cleans things up after a death or murder. His trusty old blue Volkswagen bus takes him to his destination. Wicky is an expert in removing almost impossible stains. He would like to let everyone know that. As a result, he regularly spends more time talking than working.
The Cleaner is an entertaining series when there is nothing else to watch.
In six half-hour episodes, Wicky encounters someone else each time. In the first episode, he is confronted by Stella (Helena Bonham Carter, The Crown). Stella killed her husband. When she escapes from the hands of the police, she returns home. There she finds Wicky cleaning. This immediately creates a dilemma for both.
The best episodes are perhaps the ones with the vegan in a wheelchair and Wicky's ex-girlfriend. The jokes about veganism are actually quite cliché (vegan eating meat anyway). Nevertheless, the strong character of the lady in question ensures sharp dialogue with Wicky. He gets it regularly. The jokes sometimes are a bit too much, but that's what makes it so strong. In the episode with his ex-girlfriend Maggie (Jo Hartley, After Life), the scene in which it becomes clear why Maggie has left Wicky is especially hilarious. Unforgettably funny. I still see it in my mind.
Mind goes blank and just laugh
The Cleaner is an entertaining series when there is nothing else to watch. Every episode has something funny. One episode is of course more fun than the other. Which one that is has to do with personal taste. I think there is an amusing episode or scene for everyone in this series. In short, the mind goes blank and just laugh.
