Although it was previously announced that the series about the British monarchy was supposed to stop after season five, a sixth season has just been announced by Netflix. The original plan of the creators - which was to tell the story in six seasons - will be developed. The sixth season will not end up any closer to the present time, but it will allow the creators to be more detailed about the lives of Elizabeth and her house.
Creator Peter Morgan (The Jury) had previously said that he had changed his plans in order to ensure that the story could be told in five seasons, and that season five was 'the perfect time' to stop. He retracted that statement. “As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” said Morgan.
News from the palace: we can confirm there will be a sixth (and final) season of @TheCrownNetflix, in addition to the previously announced five!
