The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter is available to stream today on HBO Max

New developments in the bizarre case surrounding Natalia Grace, the orphan who was labeled an adult. There seems to be no end in sight to the bizarre case of Natalia Grace, the Ukrainian orphan who some thought was actually an adult. A remarkable phone call from her now adoptive parents throws everything into sharp relief and seems to shake everything we thought we knew about Natalia. This new documentary is more shocking than ever, but this time it’s certainly not Natalia who is causing the biggest stir.



De vierdelige nieuwe serie The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: The Final Chapter begint met het telefoontje dat Eric Evangelista – de uitvoerend producent van de vorige documentaires over haar – ontvangt van Antwon en Cynthia Mans bij wie Natalia al tien jaar gelukkig schijnt te wonen. Natalia blijkt weggelopen vanwege een meningsverschil over een Brits vriendje en Antwon zegt ‘helemaal klaar’ met Natalia te zijn en haar niet meer terug te willen.

Als Evangelista naar Tennessee afreist voor een ontmoeting met de ‘Manses’, is Natalia weer thuis en lijkt alles koek en ei. Toch valt op hoe streng en in controle Antwon en Cynthia zijn naar de inmiddels twintigjarige Natalia. Alle chatgesprekken met haar vriendje zijn door hen gewist en ze mag ook geen contact meer met hem opnemen.

Then it turns out that Natalia's life with her adoptive parents is indeed less rosy than we thought all this time and that she is more or less held captive. Her British boyfriend Neil knows this too and therefore tries to get her away. He has contacted Nicole DePaul, the woman who had hoped to get the adoption of Natalia back in 2009, but which fell through at the last moment (after which Natalia ended up with the Barnetts who made her an adult!). Nicole is very shocked by the story and decides to save Natalia and offer her a place in her house after all. But whether that is such a good idea...

What follows is an unparalleled plot where emotions fly back and forth and opinions constantly change. There also appear to be witnesses who reveal that the Manses' adopted children are structurally abused. But Natalia then turns out to support Antwon and Cynthia after all, to the surprise of Nicole DePaul who in the meantime sees her own family fall apart because of her support for Natalia.

Another family torn apart by the presence of Natalia? Or will everything turn out well after all and will this really be the ‘final chapter’ about the remarkable and sad life of the Ukrainian orphan.
