Based on the popular novel by Frederick Forsyth, the first season follows an unparalleled and highly elusive assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), who makes his living by committing attacks for the highest price. But after his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lynch) who begins tracking down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in his wake.
The cast also includes Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O'Neill and Sule Rimi.
The Day of the Jackal ranked No. 1 on Peacock's top 10 most-watched programs this week and was a top 5 streaming Original in the US in its opening weekend, according to Nielsen, while after seven days it became Sky's most-watched Original of all time with 3 million views. The series has been sold to nearly 200 countries worldwide, including SkyShowtime in Europe and Disney+ in Latin America.
Executive producers Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant recently talked about how they wanted the series to be contemporary and avoid the political undertones of the 1971 novel.
