This warning refers to Grace Penn (Allison Janney), the former vice president who, at the end of season two, was poised to become president after the death of President Rayburn (Michael McKean).

In the thrilling finale, Kate and her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) discovered that Grace was behind the attack on the British warship that set the series' events in motion. This not only makes her the most powerful person in the world, but also a dangerous enemy for Kate and Hal.
The third season begins with Grace officially being sworn in as president. The new teaser also reveals that Bradley Whitford will appear in season three as Todd, Grace's husband, a character previously only mentioned in conversation. His past involving a missing portion of an NIH grant played a role in the political chess game surrounding Grace in season one.
After a shorter second season of six episodes, season three will have eight episodes.
Netflix describes the storyline as follows: Kate Wyler finds herself in a nightmare where she gets what she wanted. She accused the vice president of a terrorist plot and admitted to chasing his job. Now the president is dead, possibly at Hal's hands, and Grace Penn is the leader of the free world.
Meanwhile, Hal does everything he can to get Kate the vice-presidential position. Kate struggles with a role she never wanted, unexpected freedom, an increasingly complex friendship with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an uneasy bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn.
The teaser features short, powerful shots of Kate and Hal, an official photo with British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge (Rory Kinnear), and concludes with Hal suggesting that Kate can oversee Grace from the White House: "You'll be in the White House, watching her every move."
The series has since been renewed for a fourth season.
The Diplomat (US) season three premieres on Thursday, October 16. Check out more first-look photos and the teaser below.
