The Diplomat (US) is gaining another big name. In addition to Bradley Whitford, Aidan Turner has now been added to the cast of the third season of the political thriller from Netflix. The new season of The Diplomat (US) picks up after the dramatic finale of season two. Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) has accused Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) of a terrorist plot and admitted that she is after her job.
With the president dead, her husband Hal (Rufus Sewell) possibly responsible for his death, and Grace Penn leading the White House, Kate finds herself in a position she never wanted. She must deal with unexpected freedom, an increasingly complex friendship with Secretary of State Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a troubling connection with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).
Aidan Turner (pictured) has a significant recurring guest role in season three, but details about his character are still being kept under wraps.
The regular cast also includes Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh, with recurring roles for Nana Mensah and Miguel Sandoval.
Season two earned The Diplomat (US) two Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series and one for Lead Actress (Russell).
Turner is best known for his leading role in BBC's Poldark, the Hobbit film trilogy, and his portrayal of Leonardo Da Vinci in the historical series Leonardo from Italian broadcaster Rai1. He is currently starring in the Hulu series Rivals.
The third season of The Diplomat (US) consists of eight episodes and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Thursday, October 16.
