The Flight Attendant - Complete series

The Flight Attendant is about flight attendant Cassie who ultimately ends up in big trouble due to bad choices in her life. Pursued by criminals and the law, she searches for answers and ways to save her life.
From 2020 to 2022, the series The Flight Attendant could be seen on HBO Max. In this story we follow flight attendant Cassandra 'Cassie' Bowden (Kaley Cuoco, The Big Bang Theory) who leads an eventful life, to say the least. The series is a mix of drama, mystery, thriller with some comedy here and there. In short, a versatile series. I've been curious about The Flight Attendant for a while now and luckily it's still available to stream on HBO. After watching the complete series I thought it was time for a review of the two released seasons.

Cassie is an alcoholic flight attendant with a past filled with trauma.

Cassie is an alcoholic flight attendant with a past filled with trauma. She enjoys her adventures around the world, doesn't like to commit and seems to have friends everywhere but rarely goes into depth. When she wakes up the next day after a flight and a fun evening with a passenger, her latest conquest is murdered next to her in bed. Cassie remembers nothing from the night before and wants to get out of the situation as quickly as possible. What if she had something to do with the murder? Or what if the killer is trying to frame her?!

Throughout the first season, we follow Cassie's search for answers as she tries to avoid the FBI. With the help of her best friend Annie (Zosia Mamet, Girls) and his boyfriend Max (Deniz Akdeniz, Once Upon a Time), she slowly finds out what happened that night in the hotel room. However, this also causes her to become entangled in a life-threatening network of killers who ultimately target her. Her life is completely out of control, which does not help her alcohol consumption.

The series is well put together and with eight episodes per season it is a quick watch. It is certainly not credible, but it doesn't have to be. The absurdism is precisely what makes the story funny and at times enjoyable. What I really liked was that both seasons have a clear beginning and end. Furthermore, while there is still plenty of material left for a sequel, the end of season two is a worthy conclusion to the entire series. Almost all questions are ultimately answered and all characters get an ending that suits them.

In the second season we see that Cassie has her life a little better on track. She moved from New York to LA, stopped drinking alcohol and is even in a committed relationship. However, when something dangerous happens to her again abroad, she cannot resist investigating it. Although she handles it a lot better and more clearly this time, she is still far from a professional. The consequences are that Cassie soon has to fight for her life again while she tries to escape criminals who are targeting her. Plus, Cassie isn't the only one in danger this time...

The special effects and environments are not always of high quality, but the actors make up for this so that it does not get in the way of the story.

The naive blonde girl who devours men is a role we have seen Kaley Cuoco play before. But that does not detract from the fact that she plays this role well and also provides a lot of depth in this case. The emotional scenes in particular were believable and the role of Cassie seems to be tailor-made for her. The first season also features a special role for the Dutch Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones). T.R. Knight, who you know from Grey's Anatomy, plays Cassie's brother in both seasons. The cast is generally very good anyway. The special effects and environments are not always of high quality, but the actors make up for this so that it does not get in the way of the story.

The first season of The Flight Attendant is based on the book of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. Although the second season is an original story, this was not noticeable while watching. The levels of both seasons were the same for me. I don't know if the quality would have remained as good if they had continued the series much longer. Over the two seasons released, we see different sides of Cassie and her loved ones and things are diverse enough to keep our attention. But Cassie's story has now largely been told. It therefore does not surprise me that at the beginning of this year it was decided to cancel the series. Nevertheless, I enjoyed The Flight Attendant. The series was not very original or special, but it is a great title to binge watch this summer.

About the writer, Karzal

Karzal
Mike (1995) has been a member of MySeries since 2016 and is mainly active on the English version of the site. Since 2018, he has been actively translating news articles, columns, reviews and basically everything that ends up on the Dutch site. The original articles, columns and reviews were actually written by others. During the week Mike can be found at IKEA, where he is a national systems specialist and occasionally also in the classroom to teach an English lesson. In addition, Mike logically enjoys watching series and has actually been spoon-fed this from an early age. The genre doesn't matter, there is a place for everything in the otherwise busy life.
