Hulu revealed more about the third season in a press release:
"Today Elle Fanning announced that season three of the Emmy-winning series The Great will return to Hulu on Friday, May 12 with all ten episodes.
Season three of The Great sees Catherine (Elle Fanning) and Peter (Nicholas Hoult) try to make their marriage work after a series of seemingly insurmountable problems. Peter witnessed his own attempted murder at the hands of Catherine and she also imprisoned all his friends. On top of that, Peter is bored to death now that he can no longer play First Husband during Catherine's reign. Peter, therefore, focuses on fatherhood, hunting and salty culinary ventures. But that's not enough to keep him happy, as visions of his dead father (played by Jason Isaacs), flash into his mind about his failures as the son of Peter the Great.
Catherine the Great begins to make a name for herself beyond her borders and, inspired by a visit from the US ambassador, sets up a conference where farmers, nobles and merchants can all give their input on the development of a new Russia. She learns that even the best political leaders sometimes have to compromise in order to move forward.
The Great is created, written and produced by Tony McNamara and executive produced by Marian Macgowan, Mark Winemaker, Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult, Echo Lake's Brittany Kahan Ward, Doug Mankoff and Andrew Spaulding, Thruline's Ron West and Josh Kesselman. The project is produced by Civic Center Media in association with MRC Television.
