The Last Kingdom - Season 3
I am Uhtred, Son of Uhtred
Alexander Dreymon is growing in his role as Uthred of Bebbanburg. But the series grows too, its humour and dialogues. The third season is darker and better than the first two. The plot of the story thickens and the actors are more convincing. In short, the third season is definitely worth watching and luckily Netflix has decided to make a fourth season.
These questions are a recurring theme in the third season. Other characters besides Brida and Ragnar receive a more prominent place and consequently we get to know them better. Characters like Hild, Thyra and Father Beocca, but also some new enemies who are standing at the gate of a great Anglo-Saxon empire, like Bloodhair (Ola Rapace) and Aethelred (Toby Regbo). They are all after riches and the rule of the empire and not necessarily in that order.
Skade, the witch/seer (Thea Sofie Loch Naess) causes problems for Uthred and his men. Just like Aethelwold, who, by the way, filled us with loathing. It must be very rewarding for an actor to be able to play a part so convincingly.
Most of the characters are wonderful and are very convincing. But Alfred, besides Uthred, has been the character that has grown the most. With bated breath we watched him, as the King of Wessex, make decisions that were sometimes hard to understand, but at the same time king-worthy.
The filming locations, mainly in Hungary, were once again beautiful. The fighting and war scenes were great and of high quality. It's wonderful to see how Anglo-Saxon England was built and the way people lived in those days.
It should come as no surprise that I am a fan of The Last Kingdom, but that doesn't mean I am blind to the minor mistakes that have crept into the show. But because the series manages to keep my attention and the characters drag me into the story, makes me forgive the writers for those small mistakes. 8.5 points for an excellent series which will fortunately receive a fourth season.

In this third season Uthred is having a hard time. Loss, betrayal and bad or wrong decisions are making his life difficult. Uthred is a Saxon, but raised as a Dane and what side do you choose then? His loyalty to King Alfred is waning and his love for Brida and Ragnar is standing in the way of restoring his loyalty. Which side will Uthred choose and which will prevail? His loyalty or his love?Destiny is all

His fears and insecurities affected me as a viewer and that means you are doing a great job as an actor, in my opinion. He thinks with his heart, Uhtred,’ Alfred said, ‘not his head. You can change a man’s heart, but not his head.
