Official Trailer for The Last of Us Season Two Released by HBO

With just over a month to go until the long-awaited return of The Last of Us, audiences were treated to a new trailer during the series' SXSW panel this past weekend. The trailer is quite ominous, hinting at the many disruptions to the relative peace on the Jackson estate that will occur in season two. Five years after the events of season one, Joel and Ellie spend most of their time in Jackson, finally finding a sense of normalcy in a world that is anything but.

But from the trailer’s opening moments, it’s clear that this sense of peace won’t last long, as forces from the infected to militant groups threaten the people they care about most. The trailer is packed with action scenes and introduces the entire cast of new characters, including Young Mazino as Jesse and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.

The story is deliberately vague, but the tension is palpable throughout. It also becomes increasingly clear that the story will be expanded from the game, as the first season did, with more scenes featuring supporting characters like Jeffrey Wright’s Isaac. Watch the full trailer below.

Creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann were joined at Saturday’s panel by series stars Bella Ramsey, Pedro Pascal, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino and Gabriel Luna.

According to the synopsis, Joel and Ellie's shared past catches up with them in season two, bringing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.

Pascal and Ramsey return alongside Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria.

Previously announced new cast includes Isabela Merced as Dina, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O'Hara also guest stars.

The Last of Us airs on HBO starting Sunday, April 13 and on HBO Max starting Monday, April 14.
