The Lincoln Lawyer - Season 1
The Lincoln Lawyer series is based on Michael Connelly's second book, The Brass Verdict. Many readers of MySeries know that I am a big fan of the series Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. The Lincoln Lawyer is by the same author and Bosch and Mickey Haller are even half brothers. In some of Connelly's books, they even cross paths. The chance that they will meet in the series is nil, but who knows in the future. Both series got a second season, so I'm not ruling anything out.
Back to The Lincoln Lawyer. Haller is a lawyer who has been out of action for a year. This is due to an accident and subsequent addiction to painkillers. Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Goliath) returns and how. He inherits a law firm and, more or less unwillingly, also inherits a high-profile case of a double murder involving the wife and lover of Trevor Elliott (Christopher Gorham, Insatiable), a software tycoon.
The rest of the cast does a fine job. Still, I would like to mention Dennis 'Cisco' Wojciechowski (Angus Sampson, Bump) separately. Not because he's doing great, but he just seems out of place. Not as a detective/investigator for Haller, but also not as wife two's fiancee. I don't see or feel the connection. Cisco does provide very nice one-liners here and there.
Los Angeles looks the same as in Bosch and Haller also has a beautiful view of the city from his terrace. The similarities with Bosch are striking and cannot be missed, yet The Lincoln Lawyer is a series all its own with its own face and color. That makes the series fun to watch. The big advantage is that it only has ten episodes. It can be seen on Netflix and it's quite easy to fly through this series. It is recommended to binge The Lincoln Lawyer.
The lawyer with the nice driver and funny license plates certainly deserves an 8.5.

He has two important people on his phone; wife one is Maggie (Neve Campbell, House of Cards (2013) and wife two is Lorna (Becki Newton, Divorce). The latter is especially important in business, the former is still his great love. They also have a teenage daughter Hayley (Krista Warner). Haller works best from a moving car, so he has a few Lincoln cars - also note the number plates on the cars, it's a nice detail - in his garage. He takes Izzy Letts (Jazz Raycole, The Quad) as a driver, which turns out to be a match made in heaven and they become good friends.I lose this case, and I’m just a guy who got a second chance and fell flat on his face.

The structure of the series is almost the same as Bosch, you notice Connelly's hand in everything. And jazz also plays an important role in this series, just like in Bosch. What is very nice about The Lincoln Lawyer is that time is taken to explain a few things about the legal process. For example, the jury selection and how exactly that works. Garcia-Rulfo is charming and knows how to portray a believable Haller. Not exaggerated and seemingly at ease as a lawyer. You’ve never heard of me because I make it a practice not to be heard of.
