Sigourney Weaver protects family secrets in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart trailer

As a matriarch, Sigourney Weaver protects her family's secrets in the first trailer for Prime Video's limited series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

The three-time Academy Award-nominated actress is best known for her roles in blockbuster movie franchises like Alien and Avatar. But Weaver has enjoyed equal success on the small screen over the years, much of it under the radar. She received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her performances in the miniseries Snow White: A Tale of Terror, Prayers For Bobby and Political Animals.

Now Weaver (pictured) returns to the small screen for another miniseries, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, which Prime Video just released the first trailer for.

The teaser trailer gives a first look at Prime Video's upcoming miniseries, which follows the eponymous Alice Hart who, after losing her parents in a mysterious fire, goes to live with her grandmother June (played by Weaver) at a flower farm in Australia, where she learns shocking secrets about her family's past.

Led by Weaver and Fear The Walking Dead's Alycia Debnam-Carey as the titular character, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart also features Asher Keddie (Nine Perfect Strangers), Leah Purcell (Wentworth), Frankie Adams (The Expanse), Alexander England ( Black Snow), Charlie Vickers (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (The Kettering Incident), Sebastián Zurita (The Oath), Shareena Clanton (Joe vs. Carole) and Alyla Browne in the cast. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Australian writer Holly Ringland and was made into a film directed by Lambs of God's Sarah Lambert. All seven episodes were directed by Glendyn Ivin (The Cry), one of Australia's leading directors.

As the trailer points out, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is from the same producers behind Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers and it's very much like mystery miniseries. However, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart stands out for being set against the backdrop of awe-inspiring Australian wildlife. The native wildflowers and plants are a means of conveying the complex emotions involved in this compelling family drama.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart premieres Friday, August 4 with the first three episodes on Prime Video, followed by weekly episodes thereafter.
