FX shares trailer for The Lowdown starring Ethan Hawke

FX is coming soon to the world with the new series The Lowdown, a thrilling noir crime thriller starring Ethan Hawke.
Ethan Hawke plays Lee Raybon in The Lowdown. Lee is a headstrong "truthstorian" who is fully committed to exposing corruption in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His drive, however, gets him into trouble with influential figures, as the trailer makes clear: Lee is repeatedly punched, roughly handled, and even thrown in a car trunk.

The series, created by Sterlin Harjo (Reservation Dogs), begins when Lee's latest revealing article—an in-depth investigation into the powerful Washberg family—is published. Shortly afterward, Dale Washberg (Tim Blake Nelson), the family's black sheep, suspiciously commits suicide.

Lee suspects there's more to the story. He follows clues left by Dale, designed to encourage someone to dig deeper into his death. What he discovers points to family intrigue: Betty Jo (Jeanne Tripplehorn), the grieving widow, seems more interested in her brother-in-law, Donald Washberg (Kyle MacLachlan), a candidate for governor, than in her late husband. Meanwhile, powerful forces are determined to prevent Lee from uncovering the truth.

The cast includes Hawke, Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Skeleton Crew, Hulu's upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot), Kaniehtiio Horn (Reservation Dogs), and Keith David (Duster).

The Lowdown premieres on Tuesday, September 23rd on FX. Watch the trailer below.

Interesting concept, but it also sounds like a fairly classic crime thriller. Ethan Hawke is a strong name, and Sterlin Harjo has shown with Reservation Dogs that he can deliver quality. I wonder if The Lowdown has enough character to distinguish itself from other series in this genre.
