Second season The Outsider not at HBO

HBO has decided not to order a second season of The Outsider. It is not clear why.

But RMC will not leave it like that, and he's already started the search for a different network or streaming service. The news comes eight months after the last episode aired on HBO. Even though the series received a lot of positive response, it has still been cancelled by HBO. IT is not clear why. The series did fairly well and was dubbed HBO's most-watched debuting show in the past three years. The audience grew from 1.2 million at first to 2.2 million viewers at the finale.

The series, which is based on the bestseller with the same name by Stephen King, follows the research of the brutal murder of a young boy. It becomes mysterious when it appears there are supernatural forces at play. This results in a veteran cop and an unorthodox researcher doubting everything. Lead characters were portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo (photo).



The pitch for the second season was presented to HBO, including the script and a bible for the continuation of King's book. Writer and executive producer Richard Price has, according to sources, created the story with King's permission. The second season was set to revolve around Holly (Erivo) and would expand upon the universe of King's book by exploring the human, naturalistic and unexplainable.

“We enjoyed our collaboration with Richard, Jason, Andrew, and the MRC team, and we wish them well in continuing the world created by the brilliant Stephen King,” said an HBO spokesperson in a statement obtained by Deadline.

“We thank HBO for a great partnership in the first season and for helping to bring in a massive audience who fell in love with The Outsider,” said MRC Television President Elise Henderson. “We are looking forward to finding a new home for this remarkable series."
