Netflix declined to comment on that possibility, but confirmed the aforementioned decision.
It all makes sense, given how popular The Perfect Couple has been. The series spent six weeks in the service’s global top 10 English-language television show chart; broke into the top 10 television shows in 92 countries; and was the service’s second-most-watched television title in the second half of 2024, with 75.1 million views from its release through Dec. 31.
Critics have been mixed about it — it has a 65 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes — so it likely would have been a tough ask to nab a series nomination on either end of the scale. But competing as a drama rather than a miniseries could improve the prospects for Kidman, a TV Academy favorite who has twice earned Emmy nominations for acting (she was nominated for Best Actress in a Mini/Anthology Series or Movie for Hemingway & Gellhorn in 2012 and Big Little Lies in 2017, and won).
And it could help her costars, too, including Liev Schreiber, who won the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie in January for his performance in the series and has previously received four Emmy nominations for acting, including three for Ray Donovan; and Dakota Fanning, who received an Emmy nomination last year for Ripley.
