The first footage, which you can see above and below, provides clues to the new season, as CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks (Centineo) becomes involved in a life-threatening spy situation in South Korea and realizes that the bigger threat may come from within . It picks up after last season's cliffhanger, when Owen (Centineo) and Max (Laura Haddock) were captured and their lives were put in danger.
Two photos show Owen and Nichika (Maddie Hasson) in the tense moments after she shoots her mother Max. The two will likely stay in touch, considering Hasson has been promoted to regular for season two. However, the news isn't so good for Max, whose fate was left ambiguous in the finale. She is not seen in any of the released photos and Haddock is not mentioned among the returning cast members.
“Owen’s headspace is complete chaos,” Centineo told Tudum about where the character is at the start of Season 2. “He has just witnessed Max — the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect — get shot by her daughter Nichka. Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.”
In addition to Centineo, Teo Yoo joins The Recruit's returning regular cast members: Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Kristian Bruun, Kaylah Zander, Hasson, Angel Parker and Vondie Curtis-Hall.
Other key cast members include Young-Ah Kim, Felix Solis, James Purefoy, Do Hyun Shin, Sanghee Lee, Omar Maskati, Brooke Smith, Devika Bhise, Alana Hawley Purvis, Daniel Quincy Anno and Jesse Collin. By popular demand, Nathan Fillion, star of the ABC series The Rookie, returns as CIA Director Alton West in his cameo role from the first season.
“Owen rolls into this season basically screwed,” Hawley told Tudum about Season 2. “Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison. Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.”
The Recruit season two can be streamed on Netflix from Thursday, January 30.
