The Recruit - Season 1

As a starting lawyer you try to build a career in a calm way. However, this is a crash course for ambitious lawyers pursuing a challenging job. They can now watch The Recruit.

A young lawyer at the CIA is plunged headlong into the dangerous world of international espionage when a former informant threatens to expose secrets of the agency. The informant can be silenced, the CIA need only acquit her of a serious crime.

Starting lawyer Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo, The Fosters) who has just started working for the CIA is not assigned the nicest jobs. This is mainly due to Violet (Aarti Mann, The Big Bang Theory) and Lester (Colton Dunn, Superstore) trying to trick him from the start. Owen is allowed to sift through a stack of files from people who have contacted the CIA and threaten to reveal something that could harm the intelligence community. There are plenty of people who do this for fun. Owen's job is to filter out serious allegations and investigate them further.

His life is turned upside down when he reads one of the files about informant Max Meladze (Laura Haddock, White Lines). She demands acquittal for a serious crime she has committed. Once she tries to expose her long-standing relationship with the CIA, Owen becomes entangled in complicated international politics. As Owen negotiates with the informant, he finds himself at odds with dangerous individuals and groups. He risks his life trying to do his duty.

Owen is busy. While his fledgling career at the CIA threatens to derail completely, he also has some private struggles to endure. He lives with two friends, including his ex-girlfriend Hannah (Fivel Stewart, Atypical). Every moment they share the screen together you feel as a viewer that they both still have feelings for each other. Owen's charming appearance ensures that he is good with the female sex. Due to his inexperience as a lawyer, he regularly needs help from, among others, Amelia (Kaylah Zander, Fire Country). She's willing to share her knowledge with Owen, but you can probably guess what she wants in return.

I hope in the real world, as a lawyer, you don't have to deal with as many fringe cases as Owen gets on his plate.

I have to say that Noah Centineo does a nice job portraying the character of Owen. His self-centered, self-confident and charming qualities combine well with the panic attacks he experiences during this rollercoaster ride. I hope in the real world, as a lawyer, you don't have to deal with as many fringe cases as Owen gets on his plate. In the end, you rarely see him practicing the profession of lawyer in the series, but he mainly ends up from one bizarre situation to another.

The Recruit is not a high-quality series, but it is certainly extremely entertaining to watch. This has a number of causes. What makes The Recruit good is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Between all of Owen's crazy experiences, there is plenty of room for lightheartedness. The humor alternates well with action-packed moments, so that as a viewer you experience a pleasant balance between the two. In addition, the storyline is handled at a nice pace, so there are hardly any boring moments. Finally, the fun radiates from the actors.

All in all, The Recruit is a delicious snack and looks good. If you're looking for a light-hearted pastime that doesn't take up too much time, I highly recommend this eight-episode first season. The Recruit has already been renewed by Netflix for a second season.
