Fourth season will be the last for HBO series The Righteous Gemstones

The Righteous Gemstones is about to take its final bow. That's right, the HBO comedy series is ending with season four. Creator Danny McBride confirmed the news in an interview with GQ on Thursday morning, joking with the outlet: “God told me it was time. That we had achieved what we needed to do.” In all seriousness, McBride said the move to end the series felt “natural,” given that his idea for Season 4 “was a story that was bringing all these themes and these ideas and these characters to a conclusion, to something that felt like completion.”



The Righteous Gemstones tells the story of a world-famous family of televangelists with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charity work. Despite their constant bickering, the Gemstone family bonds are strong, and this season will test the family’s dependency as they try to move forward without letting go of their storied past.

McBride also stars as Jesse Gemstone alongside Adam Devine as Kelvin Gemstone, John Goodman as Eli Gemstone, Edi Patterson as Judy Gemstone and Cassidy Freeman as Amber Gemstone.

Also starring are Tim Baltz, Tony Cavalero, Greg Alan Williams, Skyler Gisondo, Walton Goggins, Jennifer Nettles, James DuMont, Jody Hill, Troy Anthony Hogan, Valyn Hall, Kelton DuMont and Gavin Munn.

Season four debuts in March, but a specific start date has not yet been announced.
