The Rookie has been renewed by ABC for a sixth season

The journey of John and his friends continues in the 2023-24 television season. The Rookie has been renewed for a sixth year on ABC.The Rookie is a police drama series starring Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O'Neil, Eric Winter, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore, and Tru Valentino. Lisseth Chavez has a recurring role. The fifth season finale will air on May 2.

John Nolan (Fillion) is a middle-aged divorced Pennsylvania man who owns a construction company. He decides to give up his old life to pursue a new career as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. He graduates from the police academy, is the oldest newcomer to the police and eventually becomes a training officer. He teams up with Sergeant Wade Gray (Jones), Detective Angela Lopez (Diaz), training agents Nyla Harper (Cox) and Tim Bradford (Winter), fellow rookie Lucy Chen (O'Neil), and the agency's newest rookie, Aaron Thorsen (Valentino).

The Rookie is currently ABC's second most-watched series and is one of the few series on the Alphabet network to see ratings increase from year to year. The numbers immediately increased when The Rookie moved from Sunday to Tuesday night.

There is no official word yet on the fate of spin-off series The Rookie: Feds, but a second season is expected.
