The Spiderwick Chronicles is a perfect balance between wonderful creatures and a good dose of suspense. After the story of the Spiderwick Chronicles was adapted into a film in 2008, it has now been adapted into a series by Roku. The original story is based on a book series by Holly Black and Tony Diterlizzi. The story follows the Grace family who, after a divorce, move into a family estate called the Spiderwick Estate. The family consists of Helen (Joy Bryant, Parenthood) with her children, twins Jared (Lyon Daniels) and Simon (Noah Cottrell) and Mallory (Mychala Lee).
The Spiderwick Chronicles is a perfect balance between wonderful creatures and a good dose of suspense. While the original film was mainly childish, we see a different target group in this, namely young adults. The first episode lays the foundation for the story and gets off to a strong start. We get an introduction to the villain and immediately see what lies ahead for this series. We also see the impressive Spiderwick estate and this is where the mystery immediately begins. Spiderwick is so gigantic on the inside that there is a lot to discover. The beautiful but poisonous tree in the portal, the secret passage in the wall to the attic, Jared is eager to discover Spiderwick's secrets.
When Jared hears his mother's aunt's stories, his imagination begins to flow. His family does not have much faith in Jared, which has led to the need to move and the breakup of the family. His imagination has gotten him into trouble before. Will he be able to convince his family of Spiderwick's fairy tales this time or will it distance him even further from his family? A series that starts very strong and sets high expectations for the season. We still have to see whether this series will live up to its expectations.
