Like another recently canceled comedy series on Prime Video after one season, The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh, The Sticky failed to break through and attract a large enough audience despite good reviews (80% on Rotten Tomatoes). Comedy series take longer than dramas to stick, which may explain why streamers are making fewer half-hour series and why they are generally canceled more often after one season.
Produced by Blumhouse Television, Curtis' Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine's Megamix and Sphere Media, The Sticky is inspired by a real-life heist that made global headlines in 2012 in which more than $18 million worth of maple syrup was stolen from Quebec's national reserves.
The series follows Martindale as Ruth Landry, a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she holds dear. She teams up with a hot-tempered Boston gangster (Diamantopoulos) and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Cyr) to carry out a multi-million heist on Quebec's maple syrup surpluses.
