This marks Streisand's (pictured) first-ever contribution to a television series in her storied career as a Grammy-, Oscar- and Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter, actress, writer and director.
Love Will Survive was composed by two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, in collaboration with multiple Emmy nominee Kara Talve and Grammy winner Walter Afanasieff, and was written by Grammy and Golden Globe nominee Charlie Midnight.
Zimmer and Talve also composed the original soundtrack for the upcoming six-part miniseries starring Harvey Keitel, Melanie Lynskey, Jonah Hauer-King, Anna Próchniak and Jonas Nay.
Streisand, who has been active for more than six decades and has several awards and international hits to her name, including her self-composed songs Evergreen, The Way We Were and Woman in Love, is accompanied on her new song by the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor William Ross.
The song was produced by multiple Grammy winners Walter Afanasieff and Peter Asher. Barbra Streisand, Jay Landers and Russell Emanuel are executive producers of the new song.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is the story of one man, Lali (Jonah Hauer-King), a Slovak Jew, who was deported in 1942 to Auschwitz, the concentration camp where more than a million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.
Shortly after his arrival, he was appointed one of the Tätowierer (tattoo artists), tasked with tattooing identification numbers on the arms of fellow prisoners. One day he meets Gita (Anna Próchniak) while tattooing her prisoner number on her arm and a love is born that endures all horrors. It is the start of a courageous and unforgettable story. Under constant surveillance by the irascible Nazi and SS officer Stefan Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita are determined to keep each other alive.
About sixty years later, Lali (Keitel), who is now in her eighties, meets the ambitious writer Heather Morris (Lynskey). Recently widowed, Lali finds the courage to share his story with the world. By telling Heather his past, Lali is finally confronted with the traumatic images from his youth and relives his love for that horrible place.
Claire Mundell, executive producer for Synchronicity Films, added: "Barbra Streisand is one of the world's leading artists and we are extremely honored to be working with her. Barbra and her team have created a beautiful song based on the main theme that Hans and Kara wrote for the series. It summarizes the main message of the story: love will survive. The recording of the song, featuring the iconic vocals of Barbra and William Ross who conducted the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, was an unforgettable moment and an experience I will cherish forever. We are pleased to be able to honor the memory of Lali and Gita with this beautiful original piece of music.”
The Tattooist of Auschwitz is produced by executive producer Claire Mundell through her company Synchronicity Films, in association with Sky Studios and All3Media International, and directed by Tali Shalom-Ezer.
The series is a co-production between Sky and Peacock. Jacquelin Perske is executive producer and head writer of The Tattooist of Auschwitz alongside episode writers Evan Placey (Associate Producer) and Gabbie Asher. Serena Thompson is an executive producer at Sky Studios.
