First cast members announced for the third season of HBO's The White Lotus

Mike White's The White Lotus has attracted its first new residents.
Set in Thailand, the new season begins filming in February in and around Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok and follows a new group of guests at another White Lotus hotel.

Leslie Bibb (Jupiter's Legacy), Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery), Michelle Monaghan (Echoes), Parker Posey (Lost in Space (2018)), Dom Hetrakul and Tayme Thapthimthong join returning cast member Natasha Rothwell (Insecure) in the upcoming third season of HBO's Emmy-winning anthology series.

As usual, no details about the guests are shared, but as was revealed in November about the start of production in February, the group consists of several generations: a patriarch, a female director, an actress, a few mothers, including a country club woman, a maverick and a yogi.

Rothwell will reprise her role as Belinda from season one.

Casting for season three began hours after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike and continued through the holidays, with several more actor deals currently under negotiation.

HBO is working with the Tourism Authority of Thailand for the filming and promotion of the third season.

“It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” White said of Season 3 back in November. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing.”

It's unclear if this means the episode count will increase again after going from six episodes in season one to seven episodes in season two.

Season three, originally scheduled for 2024, "will likely be pushed to 2025" as a result of the strikes, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max, said in November.

Getting new seasons of The White Lotus, The Last of Us and Euphoria on stream - all delayed by the work stoppage - is a major priority for HBO.

Following the season finale of The White Lotus last December, White said season three will explore "death in Eastern religion and spirituality."

Said HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi in May, “It’s an exploration about spirituality versus the ego. And it’s set against the Eastern religion.”

The first installment of The White Lotus, which premiered July 2021 and was set in Hawaii, received 20 Emmy nominations across 13 categories and won ten trophies, the most wins of any program that year, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The Sicily-set second season, which premiered in December 2022, garnered 23 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.

The White Lotus was created, written and directed by White and is produced by White, David Bernad and Mark Kamine.
