The third season of The White Lotus manages to remain surprising and innovative. A good cast with a continuous build-up of tension ensure that it is a gripping series. After the second season, it was hard to imagine what a third season would look like. The common thread from the first two seasons could no longer be the same common thread in the third season. Still, they came up with something nice and the storyline of Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge) is continued in a certain form. In the third season, there are a few familiar faces from the previous seasons. In addition, as usual, many new characters have been added to the cast. This strong cast together with the continuous build-up of tension makes the third season of The White Lotus a pleasure to watch again.
The premise of The White Lotus is as follows. The White Lotus is a luxury hotel chain with locations all over the world. Many different types of (eccentric) guests stay there, who are served/helped by the (also eccentric) staff. The location of the White Lotus hotel (or resort) is different in each season. The storylines of the seasons are basically separate from each other, making it an anthology series, but there is a certain common thread running through the seasons that makes it a kind of whole. The first season was set in Hawaii, the second season in Italy and the third season in Thailand. At the beginning of the season it is already revealed that someone is going to die and as a viewer you always try to find out who that is. Of course, you are often put on the wrong track and the series always manages to surprise you.
It is a unique series that cannot be compared with other series
The third season of The White Lotus has a good strong cast again. Among the newcomers are for example Jason Isaacs, Walton Goggins and Sam Rockwell who all have many good credits to their name. Just like the previous seasons, the characters are again well portrayed in such a way that you sympathize with them or for example have a strong aversion to them, as I had for example with the character Saxon Ratliff (Patrick Schwarzenegger). This is played with cleverly and can of course change throughout the season.
The third season consists of eight episodes with each a duration between 60 and 87 minutes. This is one episode more than the previous season which had one episode more than the first season. If they continue this, the fourth season may have nine episodes. What I think is very impressive is that the third season is just as surprising as the previous seasons and that the quality remains very high. That is not often a given in follow-up seasons of series.
The special thing about The White Lotus remains the natural build-up of tension. It almost always starts off pleasantly and harmoniously and throughout the season more and more goes wrong and it becomes more and more intense. This is well supported by the haunting soundtrack that I think the series is known for. It is a unique series that cannot be compared to other series. A fourth season has already been confirmed and I am very curious about what the setting will be and whether you as a viewer can be surprised again. I will definitely go and watch again.
In short: the third season of The White Lotus is a good continuation of the strong previous seasons. It has a good cast and you are completely drawn into the story as a viewer and you feel the tension building. Again, it is always a surprise what will happen.
Based on the above, the third season of The White Lotus gets a well-deserved 8.5.

Beautifully worded, this review. I recognize a lot in what you write. What a fascinating season again. The White Lotus always manages to create that unique atmosphere: sultry, uncomfortable and yet irresistible. That mix of mystery, underlying tensions and astute observations about how people interact with each other really continues to attract me. I enjoyed it immensely again. It remains such a unique, smart and cleverly constructed series.
