Seven new cast members for second season of The Witcher

Netflix has announced seven new cast members for the second season of The Witcher, which is expected to release in 2021. Production on season 2 has just begun.

“The reaction to season one of ‘The Witcher’ set a high bar for adding new talent for the second season,” said Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, “The Witcher” showrunner and executive producer. Netflix has announced seven new cast members for the second season. Yasen Atour (Young Wallender) can be seen as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen (Sunday) as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia, Kristofer Hivju (Game or Thrones) as Nivelles and Mecia Simson (The Hunt) as Francesca.

The Witcher is based on the best-selling fantasy book series of the same name. Geralt van Rivia, a lonely monster hunter, struggles for his place in a world where people behave like corrupt animals. When fate pushes him in the direction of a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate through the increasing instability of the continent.

Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher

Stephen Surjik (Umbrella Academy) directs the first two episodes of season 2, Sarah O'Gorman (Cursed) directs episodes 2.03 and 2.04, Ed Bazalgette (The Last Kingdom) episodes 2.05 and 2.08 and Geeta Patel (Meet The Patels) episodes 2.06 and 2.07.

Henry Cavill (The Tudors) can also be seen as Geralt or Rivia in the second season. Anya Chalotra (Sherwood) will also return as sorceress Yennefer, Freya Allan (The Third Day) as Ciri and Joey Batey (Knightfall) as Jaskier. Other actors returning in the second season include MyAnna Buring (Kill List) as Tissaia, Tom Canton (The Good Karma Hospital) as Filavandrel, Lilly Cooper (Peterloo) as Murta, Jeremy Crawford (Titans) as Yarpin Zigrin, Eamon Farren (Twin Peaks) as Cahir and Mahesh Jadu (Marco Polo) as Vilgefortz.
